An apparatus (11) for the automatic manipulation of tools, for example for welding, is equipped with a base body (12) which is rotatable about a preferably vertical first rotational principal axis (C), and via two supporting arms (14, 17) a tool holder (23) is held so as to be movable about a horizontal second rotational principal axis (B) on the base body (12), about a third principal axis (A) and about three secondary axes (D, E, P). In order to achieve, with an apparatus (11) of this type, in a simple way an extension of the working space, while at the same time optimising the accessibility and freedom from collision, provision is made for the base body (12) to be arranged relative to a fixed part (13) in such a way that its second rotational principal axis (B) is displaceable with respect to the first rotational principal axis (C) on the fixed part (13). <IMAGE>
