PURPOSE:To extend the life of flexible hoses and liquid pressure devices by bringing the journal boxes of work rolls into contact with freely vertically movable beams and providing moving devices for the work rolls in their axial line directions and the liquid pressure devices for applying roll bending in the required positions. CONSTITUTION:Upper, lower work rolls 7, 8 are moved together with upper, lower work roll bearings 9, 9', 10, 10' in their axial line directions with pinions and racks in the stage of rolling. Since the journal boxes 9, 9', 10, 10' slide on the contact surfaces with upper, lower beams 11, 12 in this stage, liquid pressure pistons 13 are kept free from the forces in the transverse directions. The rolls 7, 8 are moved to the required positions, thereafter the pistons 13 are operated to move the roll 7 upward with the beams 11 and the journal boxes 9, 9' until the roll contacts tightly with an upper backup roll 3 to set the rolls 7, 8 at a prescribed space, then the rolling is started. If necessary, the pistons 13 are operated to apply bending to the rolls 7, 8 with the beams 11, 12, the boxes 9, 9', 10, 10', thereby controlling the shape of the plate. |
