PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon-containing refractory having improved oxidation resistance, spalling resistance, slag resistance and hot strength, by adding coarse particles of Al or Al alloy and boron nitride powder to a mixture of a carbonaceous raw material and a raw material of refractory. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. refractory consisting of 1-97wt.% carbonaceous raw material and 3-99wt.% raw material of refractory is blended with 1-30wt.% coarse particles having 0.5-20mm particle diameters, comprising one or more metals selected from aluminum and an alloy containing >=20wt.% aluminum and 0.1-10pts.wt. boron nitride powder to give a carbon-containing refractory. In the refractory, aluminum partially exists in texture of brick and parts having different coefficient of thermal expansion are scattered in the texture. Fine cracks are produced by the partial difference in thermal expansion, coefficient of thermal expansion of the whole brick is lessened to reduce mutually pressing force of adjoining bricks. Consequently, for example, even if the refractory is used as lining brick, release and wear are reduced and drop in life of furnace can be prevented. |
