1,081,205. Window pivots; friction hinges. CROMPTON NETTLEFOLD STENMAN Ltd. June 30, 1966 [May 6, 1965], No. 19096/ 65. Heading E2F. A hinge for windows comprises a hollow cylinder with a body pin co-axially disposed therein, each being mounted on a bracket, and the pin surrounded by a slit collar of flexible material of slightly smaller diameter than the cylinder, wherein the diameter of the collar may be altered by a screw having a tapered end entered into the slot, to provide variable friction between the hinge parts. A hollow cylindrical member 11 on a bracket 12, co-axially surrounds a body pin 13 and a disc 14, on a second bracket 15, with a nylon collar 16 interposed between the cylinder and pin, and keyed to the latter to prevent rotation of the collar relative to the pin. The collar is split along one side 17, and has a hole 18 diametrically opposite the split; the pin has a tapped hole 20 on a line 17 - 18 to take a tapered-end screw 19, the tapered end engaging a tapered recess in the split of the collar, at which point the collar is thickened. The cylindrical member has a hole 21 for access to the head of the screw. |
