摘要 PURPOSE:To improve toughness, by molding a mixture of SiC, a specific substance and B-containing substance and calcining the mixture in vacuum or in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. SiC having <=1mum average particle diameter is blended with 1.64x.dB.M<m>/MB-31.2x.dB.M<m>/MBpt-s.wt. (MB is molecular weight; dB is density; M<m> is atomic weight of M; x is integer) substance which contains at least one element of group IVa-VIa, comprising >=10% calculated as element of group IVa-VIa of the periodic table of material in the state of fiber having >=3 aspect ratio and 0.2+17.7y.dB/MB-8+336y.dB/MBpts.wt. (y is integer) calculated as B of a B-containing compound to give a mixture. Then the mixture is molded, calcined in vacuum or in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at 1,900-2,300 deg.C to give a composite material consisting of 5-50vol.% at least one borate MxBy (M is at least one element of group IVa-VIa) of element of group IVa-VIa, comprising at least 10% material in the state of fiber having >=3 aspect ratio and the rest of SiC.
