摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To obtain the title fiber suitable as e.g. a reinforcing material for Al alloy etc., containing little potassium, by extracting part of the K2O component in potassium tetratitanate fiber with an acid aqueous solution followed by heating treatment at a specified temperature and then washing with an acid. CONSTITUTION:A titanium material and potassium material are mixed with each other so as to satisfy the formula K2O.nTiO2 (n=2-4). The resulting mixture is then calcined at 900-1,200 deg.C to produce bulky potassium titanate fiber which is then dipped into (warm) water to effect opening into single fibers. Thence, the resultant slurry is spiked with an acid to adjust the pH to 9.3-9.7 and part of the K2O component in the fiber to make the molar ratio TiO2/K2O =5.95-6. The system is then heated a 950-1,150 deg.C for >=1hr followed by washing with an acid, thus obtaining the title fiber <=5ppm in free potassium level.</p>
