The invention relates to a device for supplying respiratory gas during a case of apnoea. The device comprises an optoelectronic detector with a balloon 2 fitted with a plate 11 for intercepting the beam emitted at 13 towards the sensor 14. The signal picked up, shaped at 30, controls, in the event of a defect in the inspiration phase, a multivibrator 35 for periodic opening and closing of the respiratory gas supply valve 5, until resumption of the inspiration phase.
