Reactor for reducinq the nitroqen and sulphur oxide contents of combustion gases is a post-combustion chamber. The gases are fed upwards via a conical funnel into a vertical cylindrical shell havinq an internal conical partition with a passaqeway, and a domed upper end with a central outlet. The shell is enclosed by a heat-insulated wall to form an annular space in which an outlet for heated secondary air is located. The cylindrical shell, its domed end or its internal partition act as catalysts in the oxidation of carbon and carbon cpds.
