6,8-Difluoro 1-(2-fluoro ethyl) 1,4-dihydro 4-oxo 7-(4-methyl 1-piperazinyl) quinoline 3-carboxylic acid and its salts, for use as anti-bacterial agents against gram-positive and gram-negative types, are made by hydrolysis of the corresp. nitrile in acid medium at 70-125 deg.C and isolation by conventional methods.
