Granular composition

The invention relates to a granular composition for covering melts in metallurgical vessels, in particular for pans and distributors and also for the formation of insulating light-weight spraying compositions for wear lining and/or the lining of distributors, comprising a mixture of comminuted, inorganic, refractory aggregates and binders. To provide a granular composition which possesses a low weight, is free of carbon and water of crystallisation and can be produced at low cost, it is proposed that the mixture contains 2-10 parts by weight of a binder based on phosphates, silicates or sulphates and also from 0.01 to 0.5 part by weight of a pore former.
