A device for aligning edges in a sorter for stacked sheets has a number of pressing-on parts which are each arranged on the individual compartments of the sorter. For this purpose, the pressing-on parts are used to bring a first edge surface of a bundle of sheets stacked on each of the compartments in a first predetermined position on each of the compartments into one plane and to bring a second edge surface of the bundle of stacked sheets in a second predetermined position on each of the compartments into one plane. A bundle of sheets stacked on each of the compartments is brought in its two edge surfaces into one plane by means of a simple mechanism in a simple and convenient manner.
