An aspirating hypodermic syringe (10) and method for injecting anesthetic whereby flow through the needle, while the needle is entering the tissue, is established independently of the fingers of the operator. An expendable anesthetic vial (16) is used in the syringe (17) in such a manner as to allow effective aspiration along with multiple flow rates. Flow rates and aspiration are affected by a pump assembly and controlled remotely from the syringe (10) by means of switches (28). |
