PURPOSE:To improve the tape utilization rate and writing speed of a direct tape access system by providing a temporary storage means, detecting the occurrence of an error which destroys an adjacent stripe and a write error of the 1st stripe, and performing rewriting by stored data. CONSTITUTION:When the data of a buffer memory 11 is written in an area 25, the data is held in the memory 11 and the data of a buffer memory 12 is written in an area 2b. Then, next data is written in the memory 11 and held therein. When a detecting circuit 18 detects an error which destorys an adjacent stripe while the new data of the memory 11 is written in an area 27, a control circuit 17 discriminates on whether the error occurs during the 1st stripe writing of the starting of writing from the counted value of a counter 22, and a control circuit 13 recognizes that the area 27 and said stripe are in the same physical block 23 and the error does not occurs to the 1st stripe in the starting from the counted values of counters 20 and 21 and then rewinds the tape to the head of the area 27 to rewrite the data of the memory 11. |
