A key operated electric switch comprises a rotary switching member 13 connected to a rotary lock barrel 2 which is operable by any one of a plurality of different keys 3/I-V. The angular movement of each key is limited by shoulders 3/a'-d' on annular members 4, 5 fixed in a housing 1 and separated by a ring 6, the amount and direction of rotation being determined by the particular arrangement of steps and/or slots 3a-e on the key whereby different keys pertorm different switching operations. <IMAGE>
