A pallet (6) for mounting on a chuck (2) of a lathe is of rotationally symmetric design and is able to hold a workpiece (7) with conventional clamping means. The rotationally symmetric design enables high speeds to be applied on a lathe. The pallet (6) is just as suitable as conventional pallets for mounting in machining centres. It can also be mounted on standardised pallets for machining centres if a workpiece clamped on it is to be machined in a machining centre. <IMAGE>
