The main patent 3903687 relates to a device for the stepwise combustion of a fuel-air mixture in at least two combustion chambers (6 and 9) arranged one after the other in the flow direction of said mixture, each of these combustion chambers (6, 9) being assigned a heat exchanger (7 and 10, respectively), and in the flow direction of the fuel-air mixture downstream of the heat exchanger (7) assigned to the first combustion chamber (6), a combustion-air supply duct (5) for additional combustion air (12) opening into the mixture (11) containing the waste gases of the first combustion chamber (6). In order to obtain a swirling of this additional combustion air (12) with the mixture flow (11) originating from the first combustion chamber (6), there is connected to a radial supply conduit (5) for this additional combustion air (12) an annular conduit (18) which encircles the axis of the waste-flow (11) emerging from the first combustion chamber (6) and is crossed by this waste-gas flow (11).
