Energy-conversion apparatus for harnessing the energy of flowing streams or rivers, of ocean waves, or of ocean tides. A first embodiment has an anchored (6) double-acting pneumatic pump cylinder assembly (4) forced in reciprocation by the action of ocean waves on a buoyant member (2). The reciprocation causes air to be compressed in and pumped from the pneumatic cylinder. A second embodiment has an inverted air trap which traps and compresses large quantities of atmospheric air offshore at high tides. A third embodiment utilizes an anchored floating vessel placed in a stream or river current which drives paddle wheels mounted on the vessel. These paddle wheels drive air compression machines. The compressed air produced by the energy conversion apparatus can be used to power turbines and generate electrical power. |
