The bar-stock feed mechanism is for a machine tool, particularly an automatic lathe, having a tube immediately behind and aligned, with the machine spindle. A hydraulic piston on the tube thrusts the bar in it towards the spindle. The tube comprises a front part (15) immediately behind the spindle (3) and shorter than a normal bar, and a rear one (25) long enough to accommodate the piston. The rear part is aligned with the front one in order to thrust the bar forward, and offset to the side of it to allow reloading with a fresh bar. Toe the side of the rear part is a loading bed (37,38) receiving a bar delivered sideways, and brought into line with the front part of the tube, when the fresh bar is thrust into the latter. Detachable coupling members form a sealed joint between the front and rear tube sections. USE/ADVANTAGE - Automatic bar-stock feed mechanism does not require large amount of space.
