<p>A manual crimping apparatus (10) for attaching a ferrule to the end of a hose includes a pair of facing die carriers (36, 38) each having a pair of spaced carrier plates (40c, 42c) and a respective pair of roller dies (60, 62, 64, 66) coupled thereto and positioned therebetween. Moving the two die carriers toward one another positions the four roller dies about and in tight engagement with the outer periphery of a ferrule. With the rotational axes of each of the roller dies not aligned with the ferrule's longitudinal axis, rotational displacement of the crimper about the ferrule causes the roller dies to travel about the ferrule in a spiral path permitting virtually any length of the ferrule to be crimped in intimate contact with the hose. A spiral groove (60c) in the outer periphery of each of the roller dies further promotes displacement of the crimper along the length of the ferrule.</p> |
