The upper part of a die for making ceramic tile shapes the upper part (33) of the tile (32) down to the start of the spacers (35). The upper plug (12) moves in relation to the matrix (10) through a stroke corresp. to the height of the upper part of the tile. A tie rod (20) connects the block (11) to the upper plug with some play taken up by springs (25,26). When the die opens, spring reaction forces the tile out without friction, contact or effects of any kind to its finished upper face.
