A device for the timed operation of an electromagnetic valve is described which allows particularly fast reaction thereof with high efficiency. The device according to the invention provides, for this purpose, the inductive detection of two end positions of the moving valve element by detecting the collapse of the excitation current caused by its change in position, as well as the immediately subsequent asynchronous self-timing of the excitation current.
