Apparatus for harvesting berries on low plants, particularly strawberries, comprises a picking head (12) having a rotor (16) for rotation about an axis transverse the direction of movement of the picking head and carrying a plurality of comb-like arrays of tines (18; 218) having cam followers (336) which engage a shaped cam (326) causing relative movement of the tines (218) and the rotor as the latter rotates such that at the lowermost part of their travel the tips of the tines follow a path having a substantially rectilinear portion generally parallel to the ground. The rotor is driven to turn in a direction such that the tines are travelling in the same direction as the rotor when at the lowermost part of their travel.
