PURPOSE:To enhance the performance of a lithium secondary battery by using lithium manganese oxide as a positive electrode active substance, which is obtained by banking a mixture of lithium hydroxide powder and manganese dioxide having a certain specific surface area. CONSTITUTION:The specific surface area of manganese dioxide shall be 60m<2>/g when represented by the value according to BET method measurement. This owns to the knowledge that the initial capacity and the 2nd cycle capacity of a battery are large in the specific surface area in applicable range. The manganese dioxide powder and lithium hydroxide powder are mixed together in a mol proportion of 1:0.3-0.8. This is due to the knowledge that the initial capacity and 2nd cycle capacity of a battery are large at this lithium hydroxide content. This mixture is baked at 320-440 deg.C into a positive electrode active substance, and a battery incorporating it has a high electric capacity, high voltage, and excellent charging/discharging cycle characteristics. |
