发明名称 FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY ELEMENT
摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain the ferroelectric liquid crystal display element which have oriented films having excellent water resistance by using polyvinyl fluoride as an oriented film material and orienting liquid crystal molecules uniformly over a wide area in parallel with substrates without disturbing the layer structure of the ferroelectric liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:The ferroelectric liquid crystal is disposed between two sheets of the substrates with transparent electrodes which are opposed to each other. The polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) is used as the oriented film material of the oriented films 4 formed to the transparent electrodes 3 of the liquid crystal display element oriented with the liquid crystal molecules in parallel. Solvent such as 2-butanone and dimethylformamide are effective in this case and these solvents have the b.p. lower than about 170 deg.C which is the temp. considered to induce a chemical change of ITO. The PVF is insoluble in water and the oriented films obtd. therefrom are stable to water. The calcination of the oriented films can, therefore, be executed at the temp. at which the chemical change of the ITO of the electrodes does not arise. The ferroelectric liquid crystal display element which have the oriented films having the excellent water resistance is thus obtd.
