<p>A winding device for winding a heavy-gauge wire made of a hard material, e.g., a metal wire, onto a bobbin or a coiling drum in an orderly fashion, or a coil assembly comprising a bobbin and a coil wound thereon. The coil assembly is used, for example, as a coil in the magnet switch of an engine starter, the rotor coil of an alternator, etc. The winding device or the coil assembly of this invention comprises on the coil winding surface thereof: a plurality of first mutually parallel grooves which are parallel to the flanges and which are so arranged that the centers of adjacent grooves are separated from each other by a distance P which is the width of said grooves; and a plurality of second mutually parallel grooves the ends of which do not meet with the ends of the first grooves and which are parallel to the flanges and are so arranged that the centers of adjacent grooves are also separated from each other by the distance P which is the width of said grooves; each of the first grooves being off-set from the corresponding second groove in the axial direction by the distance P or less which separates the centers of adjacent grooves. A pair of intermediate sections having a predetermined width in the circumferential direction are provided between the respective ends of the first and second grooves.</p> |
