The system includes a stylus and touch tablet 2 by which image data is drawn into a store 3. The image data store 3 may be used as control data or stencil for controlling the combining of images. In one embodiment the system is arranged to enable the density of the control image to be variable up to a predefined maximum and in another embodiment to enable a control image of uniform density to be created. Stylus pressure is used to control the density of the control image.
