PURPOSE:To perform stably hydrocracking of a fossil fuel oil for a prolonged period of time and obtain a fraction having a higher light oil content in a high yield by carrying out multistage hydrocracking of a fossil fuel oil contg. distillation residue in the presence of two particular types of catalysts. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. ZnO-Cr2O3 compd. oxide having a Zn/Cr atomic ratio of 0.2-20, which optionally contains 1-100 pts.wt. metal (salt) of Group VI or VIII, is carried on a porous carrier, such as those of silica or alumina, thereby obtaining a catalyst (A). A first-stage hydrocracking of a fossil fuel oil contg. distillation residue (e.g., shale oil) is conducted in the presence of a catalyst (A) under conditions such that the hydrogen pressure is 30-300kg/cm<2>G and the temp. is 330-450 deg.C. Subsequently, a second-stage hydrocracking of the oil is conducted in the presence of a highly active Mo-based or W-based catalyst (B) for petroleum purification (e.g., Ni-W/silica-alumina) under conditions such that the hydrogen pressure is 30-300kg/cm<2>G and the temp. is 330-450 deg.C. |
