PURPOSE: To obtain a medicine which contains a 4-substituted imidazole derivative as an active ingredient and can reduce the amount of the anesthetic agent on the surgery operation and can reduce the responses of the autonomic nervous system to stress-rich stimulations. CONSTITUTION: This medicine contains a racemic or dextrorotatory 4-[1,2,3- dimethylphenyl]ethyl]-1H-imidazole or its salt as an active ingredient. The medicine can be dosed as a medicine on surgery operation with topical or general anesthetization or without anesthetization, particularly as a narcotic auxiliary. For example, for anti-anxiety and analgesic dose in the pre-operation or for sedation and analgesic purpose to reduce the dose of the narcotic agent. It can be given intravenously, intramuscularly or orally and the preferable dose is 1-10μg/kg.
