<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of harmful gaseous halogen from the anode when an electrolytic soln. contg. a halide is electrolyzed, by using a gas diffusion electrode as the anode so as to allow generated gaseous halogen to react with hydrogen or methanol. CONSTITUTION:When an aq. hydrochloric acid soln. contg. a metal halide such as ZnCl2 is electrolyzed as an electrolytic soln. 3 to deposit Zn on the cathode 8, gaseous Cl is generated from the anode. In order to prevent the generation of gaseous Cl, a gas diffusion electrode 2 consisting of a reaction layer 4 and a gas diffusion layer 5 is used as the anode. A gas chamber 7 having a gas feeding inlet 6 is fitted to the layer 5 and gaseous hydrogen or methanol is fed from the inlet 6. The fed gaseous hydrogen or methanol passes through the layer 5 and reacts with generated gaseous Cl in the layer 4 to form HCl. Since this HCl enters the electrolytic soln. 3, the generation of gaseous Cl can be prevented.</p> |
