PURPOSE:To enable using for application of light, by converting a digital quantity represented by incident light parallel to a light waveguide layer and weighted according to the position of incidence to an analog quantity. CONSTITUTION:A light waveguide layer 12, several mu thick, and higher in refractive index than the crystal base plate 11 is formed by thermal diffusion of titanium on the surface of single crystal 11 of lithium niobate which is an acoustic optical crystal. Light combining parts 23, 24 are formed on both ends of the light waveguide layer 12. Eight parallel beams of light P0-P7 are introduced from the light combining part 23 into the light waveguide layer 12 and polarized by elastic surface wave SAW1 while propagating in the light waveguide layer 12, and only those beams which are not polarized by SAW2 are emitted from the light combining part 24. Light emitted from the light combining part 24 is sent to a light detector 27 through a lens 25 and integrated by an integrator 27. |
