An apparatus comprises a first roller for feedign cloth, drive means, a second roller for tensioning the cloth, and transmission means. The drive means rotate the first roller intermittently in a forward or reverse direction synchronously with the up-down motion of a upper sewing needle. The second roller is disposed in parallel with the first roller. The transmission means are disposed in a perpendicular direction to the first and second rollers for transmitting the driving force of the first roller to the second roller in order to operate them synchronously.
