PROCESS FOR CONVERSION OF UF6 TO UO2

A process for converting UF6 to UO2 in a fluidzed bed comprises (a) pyrohydrolyzing gaseous UF6 and steam to produce UO2F2 particles, (b) reacting the UO2F2 particles with water to obtain UO2F2 hydrate, (c) converting UO2F2 hydrate to UO2F2 anhydride, (d) reconverting UO2F2 anhydride to UO2 powder with hydrogen gas adn steam, (e) calcining UO2F2 anhydride with steam to produce UO3 or a mixture of UO3 and U3O8, and (f) reducing it with hydrogen gas and steam to produce UO2 powder.
