<p>PURPOSE:To make it possible to obtain an uniformly planar electron-irradiating region, by arranging the surface conductive type electron emitting elements such that they may satisfy specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of linear electron sources formed by mutually aligning electron-emitting portions 5 of surface conductive type electron-emitting elements are arranged together in a row so that the electron-emitting elements are placed to one another to have spaces P2 between adjacent electron-emitting portions 5 in each linear electron source, larger than spaces P1 between neck portions formed out of each thin film 3 located on each same side in adjacent linear electron sources. The width(W) and length(L) of each electron-irradiating region 7, and the spaces P1 and P2 are also related to one another so as to satisfy the expression of L>P2 as well as W>P1, while the length(l) of the neck potion forming each electron-emitting portion, and also the spaces P1 and P2 are related to one another so as to satisfy another expression of P1-l<P; Namely, spaces between adjacent electron-irradiating regions 7 are formed to have each small space in the (W) direction and each large space in the (L) direction while respective electron-irradiating regions 7 are partially overlapped to one another in order to fill up any gap. An uniformly planar electron- irradiating region can be thus obtained.</p> |
