The invention relates to a device for triggering a passive safety device (1) which is installed in a vehicle and is triggered in the event of an impact. For this purpose, the output signals of an acceleration sensor (2a, 2b) are fed to an evaluation circuit (4a, 5a, 4b, 5b), after which the evaluated signals are passed onto a triggering circuit (6) for the safety device. In order to be able to distinguish reliably an actual impact of the vehicle from other situations in which high mechanical stresses act briefly on the acceleration sensor, without however these stresses being able to put the occupant of a vehicle at risk, it is proposed according to the invention to provide a rating circuit (A, B, C) which initially blocks the enabling of the safety device (1) for a brief time with the aid of a timing circuit (B) when a significant output signal occurs and only enables the said safety device (1) subsequently.
