A glove compartment is proposed which is composed of a drawer (9) which is enclosed on all sides except at the top. The drawer (9) can be moved by means of a controlled drive over approximately horizontally arranged telescopic rails (11) into an open and a closed position. The drive for the drawer (9) can preferably be actuated via a switch (21) which is arranged within easy reach of the driver of the vehicle.
