Jack having a vertical support fastened to the bottom of which is a base and in which there is rotatably mounted a threaded spindle for displacing a slide along the vertical support, and having an insertion pin which can be inserted into a vehicle body, is coupled to the slide such that it can be pivoted about an axis which is perpendicular with respect to the plane of movement of the insertion pin and which can be folded downwards in the direction of the base. In order to prevent the base from becoming detached from the vertical support due to the insertion pin being moved downwards, on the base there is provided a run-on element which is yielding relative to the base and is intended for the downwardly folded insertion pin.
