Cooling fans used in the case of ambient air interspersed with dirt particles and dust, are subjected to a high wear, in particular by erosion. In order to increase the cooling fan service life, measures are necessary which ensure an improved wear resistance. In this case, the blading of the cooling fan is particularly threatened. For the purpose of increasing the surface hardness, it is intended to provide the blades (3) of the impeller (1) with a hard anodic coating. For the purpose of cost minimisation, it can be sufficient to provide only partial regions of the blades (3), such as the leading edge (4) and the outlet edge (5), with an anodic coating. The method also makes unhindered cooling-fan use possible in the case of dusty ambient air. In Fig. 3, an impeller (1) can be seen in which only partial zones, such as the leading edge (4) and outlet edge (5) are hard anodised. <IMAGE>
