The invention relates to a protective cap (1) for hypodermic needles (2). In order to prevent the hypodermic needle (2) from being pushed back into the protective cap (1) after use of a syringe it is proposed, according to the invention, that the insertion opening (4) of the protective cap be provided with a closure element (6) which closes the protective cap automatically by spring force after pulling-off the protective cap (1) from the hypodermic needle (2). Furthermore, the protective cap (1a) may be made of an elastic material which may be provided with spring properties, e.g. a scroll spring (8) may be integrated into the protective cap (1a), so that the protective cap (1a) rolls up after pulling it off the hypodermic needle (2). <IMAGE>
