It is customary today to embed, in the absorbent, swelling substances for storing the body fluid. For the purpose of odour inhibition it is considered particularly effective according to the invention for odour-binding substances, such as zeolite or activated carbon, to be separately embedded in the regions of the absorbent which contain the swelling substances, in a concentration which at almost every point of the absorbent is chosen to be essentially proportional to the concentration of the swelling substances in the absorbent. This produces a synergy between the swelling and the odour-binding substances as regards odour absorption.
