The invention is based on an electrical switch, which is used especially as an electrical seat contact switch for motor vehicles. Such a switch has a housing, an operating rod (which is guided such that it can be displaced axially in the housing) and a switching element, which controls a moving contact, is coupled to the operating rod via a friction-force limiting lock for initial adjustment and readjustment, and can be displaced into two limit positions with respect to the operating rod. In order to create a seat contact switch having a long life, the friction-force limiting lock has a lock whose locking capability is different in the two movement directions of the operating rod and which is held on the switching element. A stop which is fixed to the housing supports the lock in one limit position and the switching element in the other limit position.
