Mounting device for the releasable fastening of roof boxes or the like on motor vehicle roof racks which takes the form of u-clamps which grip round the roof rack and have limbs which take the form of tie bolts, brace a clamping limb in an upward direction, penetrate the floor of the box and are provided in the interior of the latter with a drawing device, at least one of the tie rods being provided with an extended head which engages in a recess in the underside of a clamping plate and the recess being open laterally owing to the presence of a hooking-in slot which corresponds to the thickness of the tie bolt.
