<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate the reading error due to its primary factor, i.e., the loss of one module and to improve the reading efficiency by using a statistical means to correct the loss of the modules caused by the remaining process carried out in a module number arithmetic state when a multi-level bar code is read. CONSTITUTION:A module number calculating part 805 divides the count value of clocks corresponding to a read bar or space by the count value of a basic module and sends the relevant quotient and residual to a module number correcting part 810. The part 810 stores both the quotient and the residual by an amount equal to one character. Then the prescribed number of modules is obtained by adding 1 to the module number of the bar or space having the largest residual at an input of the signal that shows a fact that the module number received from a module number sum total comparing part 860 is smaller than a prescribed level. Thus the read bar code is validated in case the number of modules equal to one character is equal to the prescribed level or smaller by 1 than the prescribed level. Otherwise a reading device is reset and therefore no reading error is produced.</p> |
