A wood substitute board comprises one extruded layer in which the shavings are arranged approximately perpendicular to the plane of the board, and a covering layer or layers formed from glued wood fibre material such that the fibres of the covering layer are arranged substantially crosswise to the wood shavings of the extruded layer. The extruded layer suitably has a weight of about 450 to 550 kg./m.3 and may be hollow. The covering layer may be 0.8-2.0 mm. thick, and may be covered with a synthetic resin laminate or a veneer. The wood fibres may be mixed with grinding dust or sawdust, e.g. from chipboard or plywood. The covering layer may have coarser fibres adjacent the extruded layer and finer fibres away from the extruded layer. |
