PURPOSE: To fit a nut type fastener in a flat state by continuous actions by aligning and arranging a female element to face a panel, and moving the free end of a punch through the female element into the panel. CONSTITUTION: The free end of a punch 74 is moved through a female element 116 into a panel 250. When the punch 74 is moved into the panel 250, a cone- shaped panel portion is formed in an unsupported state in a die hole 132. The boring end of the punch 74 bores a slag from nearly the center section of the cone-shaped panel portion to form a small-diameter panel opening. The extraction section of the punch 74 is moved while facing the panel 250 to expand the panel opening, and the cone-shaped panel portion is thrust into the die hole 132. The barrel portion 172 of the female element 116 is moved into the cone-shaped panel portion, and the panel portion is annularly extracted through the panel opening in the die hole 132. The free end of the barrel portion 172 is deformed in the radial direction in the die hole 132 and is mechanically engaged with the annular panel portion. |
