PURPOSE:To increase a catalytic activity at high temperatures by forming a catalyst wherein nickel oxide, a main catalytically active component, and tungsten oxide or chromium oxide, a promoter component, are supported by a carrier made of mullite. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for steam reforming of hydrocarbon is obtained by impregnating a catalyst carrier made of mullite with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt such as ammonium salt of tungstic acid, baking it, further impregnating it with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble salt such as nitrate of nickel, a main catalyst component, and baking it again. As an alternative method, the catalyst is obtained by impregnating the carrier made of mullite at once with an aqueous solution of a mixture of a water-soluble salt of nickel such as nickel nitrate and that of chromium such as chromium nitrate and baking it afterward. Contents of nickel oxide and tungsten or chromium oxide in the catalyst are preferably 1.0-20wt.% and 0.1-5.0wt.% respectively. |
