<p>PURPOSE: To selectively adsorb and remove sulfur-contg. gases by bringing industrial waste gases into contact with a basic material contg. specific tertiary amino groups. CONSTITUTION: The industrial waste gases are brought into contact with the basic material contg. the tertiary amino groups of formula I ((m) and (n) are each 1 or 2; X and Y are each 0 to 10, R and R' are each hydrogen or alkyl; R" is a hydrogen atom or methyl) and more particularly a copolymer of a vinyl compd. As a result, hydrogen sulfide, carbon disulfide, carbon oxysulfide, sulfur dioxide or the like are selectively adsorbed and removed from the other gases. This method is usable for removal of SO2 in a Claus method, desulfurization of power plant waste gases or the like. The material may be regenerated after use by a method of treating it with hydrochloric acid, the washing the material with water and further activating the material with an aq. sodium hydroxide, then treating the material with water.</p> |
