The marking device includes a tool-holder turret 3 driven in a controlled advance and withdrawal movement, a marking tool 7 mounted adjustably in the tool-holder turret and comprising a longitudinal impression corresponding to a marking to be produced on the circumference of a component 2 to be marked. Means 5, 6, 10 are connected to the marking tool to enable the latter to be displaced in frictional contact with the component to be marked and in order, then, to return the marking tool. <IMAGE>
