The transmission shaft (13) comprises a central shaft (30) which is flexible in torsion connected between two end caps (23,26) which form the forks of universal joints. An outer rigid tube (32) is welded to one end connection (26) and is free to rotate at the other end (23). O-ring joints (33) prevent the ingress of contaminants into the inner space. A radial rib (31), attached to the central shaft (30), provides further longitudinal rigidity and carries bosses which engage in slots in the outer tube thus limiting the degree of twist of the inner shaft. USE/ADVANTAGE - The shaft is designed for use on four wheel drive vehicles, is light in weight and does not flex at elevated speeds.
