PURPOSE:To obtain preferable characteristics even if a magnetic coating material is applied fast and continuously by incorporating a specific resin having negative functional groups, carbon black having a specific average particle size and specific fatty acid or ester of fatty acid in the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer containing ferromagnetic powder and a binder is provided on a nonmagnetic supporting substance to constitute the magnetic recording medium. In this magnetic recording medium, the magnetic layer contains such a resin having at least a negative functional group, carbon black and a lubricant. The average particle size of the carbon black is in the range of 20 to 60mum. The lubricant include at least >=2 kinds of fatty acids or >=2 kinds of esters of fatty acid. Moreover, the surface roughness of the nonmagnetic supporting substance is in the range of 0.010 to 0.025mum. Thereby, even when the medium is manufactured by applying the magnetic coating fast and continuously, excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristics and traveling durability can be obtained. |
