PURPOSE:To obtain a cell with the excellent mechanical strength and catalyst activity and low performance reduction by containing fiber-shaped graphite in a water-repellent layer. CONSTITUTION:A water-repellent layer 3 containing fiber-shaped graphite and a catalyst layer 2 are pressed and molded via a conducting porous substrate 1 to form an electrode. The water-repellent resin of the water-repellent layer 3 is fiber-shaped resin, at least conducting fine grains are partially coated on the surface of the fiber-shaped graphite. The fiber-shaped graphite has the diameter of 10<-2>-10mum and the length of 10-10<3>mum, and 5-20wt.% of it is contained for 100wt.% of the water-repellent layer 3. Fiber-shaped graphite is contained only in the water-repellent layer 3 not participating in the electrode reaction, the durability and mechanical strength of the electrode itself are improved. No fiber-shaped graphite is contained in the catalyst layer 2 directly participating in the electrode reaction, the catalyst action is effectively exerted, the electrode excellent in both performance and strength is obtained. |
